Farm Day

Yesterday my brother-in-law(Glen) and I took the kids to Shetler's Family Dairy in Kalkaska Mi. It was their Open Farm day and the kids got to take a tour of the barn, go on a hayride, and the older girls did a pony ride. We all had a lot of fun and I got a little bit of a sunburn. I keep forgetting how the pregnacies have affected me. Before the children I could spend at least two hours in the sun without having to worry about sunscreen. Now I burn if I am out for half an hour. Very frustrating. ( Especially since I hate sunscreen, lol

Near the end of our visit to the farm Kyla looks up at me, "Mommy, the cow can stand?" with a confused voice and face. When I turn to see what she is looking at I see one of the Dairy's empoyees in a cow costume. So I tell her, "No honey, that's someone in a cow costume, they're dressed up like a cow." All she says in response is "Oh" and continues to stare at the person in the costume. After a little while Glen also noticed the empoyee and asked the girls if they wanted their picture taken with the cow. Kyla would not say a word, still staring at the costumed emplyee, but shook her head with a definite no.

And I don't blame her, I didn't want to go any closer either. I'm not sure exactly what it is but I do not like people in costumes. Part of it is that you can't see their face, you have no idea where they are looking. The same goes for people in make up- I do NOT like clowns. My discomfort is so ingrained that as a teenager I did not want to talk to my own mother when she was a clown at an event, and the first yr my husband and I were dating I was completely freaked out when he was dressed up for Halloween.
